Greetings! It is an honor to have been elected as the 2017 chair of the Cumberland County Board of Education. I am a proud graduate of our school system and currently have three children in our schools.  Additionally, I am the longest serving board member with 14 years of service and this will be the fourth time I have had the privilege to serve as chairman.

It gives me great pride in knowing that I am working with a team that is dedicated to ensuring that every student gets the quality education they deserve. It is our mission to fully prepare students for their next chapter in life. Cumberland County Schools provides an exemplary education to over 52,000 students and we will continue to promote students learning by providing rigorous learning environments and exciting career exploration opportunities.

It is also important that we provide a highly-qualified teacher for every classroom and strive to retain those teachers to guarantee every students success. We are diligently working toward the goal of recruiting and retaining those professionals that will best serve our children. These dedicated individuals can help to provide a safe and caring learning environment to ensure all students are given the opportunity to learn.

Our vision is that Cumberland County Schools’ be committed to empowering all students to collaborate, compete, and succeed in an increasingly interconnected world.

What can you do to help?

  • Become involved as a volunteer in one of our local schools.
  • Recruit retired friends and family to volunteer.
  • Participate in our parent dialogue sessions.
  • Promote our “Every Minute Counts” campaign.
  • Join your school’s PTA and talk to your school administrator about serving on the Cumberland County District PTA advisory team.
  • Explore the possibility of serving on your schools SIT team.
  • Attend School Board meetings.

We have many challenges ahead but the possibilities are endless if we all work together toward the same goals. We invite you to join us in our efforts to support both students and teachers each day in the classroom.   Thanks again and please reach out if we can help you!
